STEAMulate Laser Tag Progam Overview
This innovative STEAM-based curriculum joins together laser tag, STEAM, and design thinking to provide student-driven opportunities to engage in STEAM-related content in authentic and interactive ways. The curriculum is designed to walk youth through five weeks of discussing core STEAM-related competencies and five weeks of game design based on design thinking principles. Students will be introduced to key STEAM-competencies and then practice these competencies in the context of laser tag and game design. They will then engage in discussions around how these competencies play out in future possible careers. Through this course, youth are provided with the opportunity to expand their knowledge of STEAM outside of the classroom, discuss possible careers, and design their own laser tag game.
Healthy Risk Taking Program Overview
As such, this curriculum is designed to walk youth through 10 weeks of discussing core competencies involved in innovative risk taking. Building off of core features of Positive Youth Development, and adolescent risk literature, this curriculum is designed to prepare youth to take innovative risks in a calculated manner. Students will be introduced to key theories and then practice these competencies in the context of video games. They will then engage in discussions around how these competencies play out in their day to day lives. Through this course, youth are provided with the opportunity to learn key educational theories, uncover the truth behind calculated risk, and discuss ways they can engage in innovative and healthy risks in their daily lives.
